IT COULD HAPPEN TOMORROW by Gary Frazier

March 29, 2012

I was really impressed with this book. I have been reading some wonderful prophecy books and didn’t know how this would compare to those, but I really believe Mr. Frazier is right on.  His writing is very clear and easy to understand.  We are living in a time of such turmoil but such a exciting time, also.  Mr. Frazier covered lots of interesting topics. His chapters were:

1. The Great Disappearing

2. America in Prophecy

3. The Birth of the New World Order

4. The Islamic Invasion of Israel

5. The Great Deceiver

6. Global Religion

7. The Temple Rebuilt

8. The Mark

9. The Glorious Appearing

God has graciously given us so many signs to watch for Christ’s return. Do you want to know what is next on God’s timeline? The most important question you can ask yourself is, “If the church is raptured tomorrow will I be gone with the church because I am a beliver in Jesus Christ or will you be left behind to suffer the 7 horrible years of the tribulation?” I recommend this book for believers and unbelievers alike.  The plan of salvation is very clear in this book. God always keeps his promises. Christ spoke of impending wars, famines, earth quakes, famines, etc.  in the last days. Sound familiar? The rapture of the church is coming and it could be tomorrow. Please be prepared.

This was an excellent book with very accurate prophecy you can trust because it is based on scripture. But be as the Bereans and have your Bible out to compare with Mr. Fraziers book. I would like to thank New Leaf Publishers for giving me a copy of this book to read and give a honest review. I would like to thank Mr. Frazier for informing everyone to get ready!

4 Days To A Forever Marriage by Dr. Gary and Norma Smalley

March 12, 2012

I have always loved Dr. Smalley’s books and was excited to read this book that he co-authored with his wife, Norma. Even though I have been married for almost 44 years, I still loved to read books on improving my marriage.  This book, actually, helped me this morning. My husband made a mistake and it was costly. He told me about it as I getting ready to go to church. My first thought was anger but instantly, I remembered the theme of this book was choosing love or anger. Because of this, I chose love. He felt bad for his error and he didn’t need me making feel even worse.

This book is just over 100 pages but is packed with nuggets. The chapter titles are, “Loving Words & Actions”, “Communication and Resolving Anger”, “Affection and Intimacy”, and “Trials and Treasures”.  At the end of each chapter, there are application questions for the husband and wife to answer. The Smalleys are very honest and transparent, even sharing their own struggles.

They pointed out the “starting point’ is to understand the differences between men or women. An example is,  “A woman is usually much more in touch with her emotions, but a man is primarily concerned with the ‘facts’.

I really thank New Leaf Publishers for giving me this book to review. I highly recommend this book for engaged couples to couples that have been married a long time.

Stuck by Jennie Allen

January 17, 2012

Stuck is a fantastic group Bible Study that would benefit everyone but is designed as a women’s study. It is designed to strip away all the hypocrisy and get serious with God. We can not get unstuck until we admit we are stuck. We must admit we are broken and that our only way out is by God’s grace and mercy. The seven lessons in this study are: 1.Broken projects 2. Mad projects 3. Discontent projects 4. Scared projects 5 Overwhelmed projects 6. Sad projects 7. Unstuck projects.

The kits comes with DVD, Bible Study workbook, leaders book and cards that really open up converstation with the other ladies in your study. They ask questions to share with the others that really get to the point of our need which can only be answered by Jesus Christ. The work book was excellent. She teaches on the subject and there are personal questions for you to respond on what Jennie has taught. This study not only helps you draw closer to God but also closer to those that are involved with the study.  Being honest before God and others in the class brings healing and a greater love and compassion for each other.

I would like to thank Book Sneeze, a division of Thomas Nelson, for giving me this Bible study for an honest review. Ladies, please don’t remain where you are. God wants so much more for our lives. Let Jennie Allen show you the way. Thenk you Jennie.

THE FAMILY ILLUSTRATED BIBLE

January 12, 2012

I was so impressed with this Illustrated Bible from the beautiful drawing of Noah on the front cover to the very last page. It was previously published as The Children’s Bible. But I can’t image the pictures or drawings being as beautiful in the older version. Each and every page is outstanding!

I loved how each subject of the Bible was told in simple terms so a child could understand but yet mentioned things that I had either forgotten or never knew. I loved to just drink in the words and pictures and then meditate on what was taught.  I can’t wait to read and discuss it with my grandchildren. I know they will love it, also.

There are over 74 teachings from the Old Testament and over 60 from the New Testament. Of course, the first being The Creation but also include Balaam’s Donkey and Rahab and the Spies. The New Testament begins with A Son for Zechariah and includes Jesus and the Children.

Along with each lesson being easy for children to understand and with great pictures and illustration, are reference pages that give additional history information and pictures. On these pages are graphs of the time line involved. There is just so much in this book!  The last few pages are dedicated to giving a brief bio of the people in the Bible. For instance, if you looked up Paul you would find,”Born a Pharisee in Tarsus, Paul was at first a persecutor of the Christians. But he was converted after he saw a vision of Jesus, changing his Hebrew name of Saul to Paul. He spread the word on his missionary journeys and helped build up the early church.”
But there were a couple of things I did not agree with. It says on pg. 23 that “Noah quickly set to work to find the creatures that God had told him he must save and lead them into the safety of the ark.” But in Genesis 7:7-9,it says, “And Noah and his sons and his wife and sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark.” Another statement I do not agree with was about the creation. On page 19 it says, “On the sixth day, God said, ‘Let there be living creatures on the land.’ And He covered the earth with creatures of all shapes and sizes, from the tiniest flea to the mightiest lion.” I don’t see fleas as being declared good by God and wonder if they were part of the curse, along with the weeds. Just a thought!

I would love to thank New Leaf Press for giving me this beautiful illustrated Bible which is beautiful enough to use as a coffee table book. I will enjoy reading this to my grandchildren for years to come and give it as a “treasure” to one of them to share with their children. I see it as becoming a beautiful heirloom.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD CHRISTIAN by Matt Mikalatos

December 15, 2011

Night of the Living Dead Chrisitan is a spiritual allegory that compares our human nature with monsters. The author, Matt Mikalatos, describes people that use others for their own benefit as Vampires.  Werewolves have urges that they can not control.  Zombies have a lack of original thought and want to make others like them.

In this story, Matt  leaves his pregnant wife and small children at home every night  to walk the neigborhood to keep it safe.  One night he meets bad tempered Luther (a werewolf) who is  wanting to be transformed.  With the help from others, including, a mad scientist, an android named Hibbs 3000, a vampire and a half zombie they start their adventure for a cure. Luther’s bad temper has caused his wife to leave him and take their daughter.  Along they way they meet other monsters.

Others found this book hilarious with all the monsters running around trying to be transformed but I didn’t.  I found the many truths to be sobering and thought provoking. We call ourselves Christian but how Christ -like are we? Are we truly transformed or is there a monster still living in us, causing others not to desire Christ.

“But I look at their lives and see far too many zombies.  That is to say, they claim to have found a new, invigorating, abundant life, but I see little evidence that it’s anything but idle chatter. They cheat on their income tax and cut corners at work and yell at their children. They break their wedding vows on Friday night and tighten their ties and straighten their skirts on Sunday morning.  They drive by a homeless man on their way to a social justice rally, or they ignore a raped woman crying on the sidewalk while they hoist their antiabortion signs.” (pg.95)

I would like to thank Tyndale House Publishers for giving me a complimentary copy of this book to read and give an honest review.

I would like to give away a Certificate for a free copy of this book. The first person to leave a comment will win. Leave a way to contact you so I can mail you the certificate.

MATTHEW Gift From God by Sean Haines

October 31, 2011

This is such an amazing love story written by a father about his incredible son, Matthew. It started out detailing the life of Sean’s first-born son to his family by email.  Matthew was born on June 18, 1996. But is turned into the memoirs of his precious, precious son who died with cancer on January 22, 2005 after such a courageous battle.

Sean Haines published his emails, “to help others find inspiration and faith in their own lives, and to never give up, not matter the cards they are dealt.”  This book sure show you what pure, unconditional love truly means as the author hoped it would.

You will laugh and cry with this dear family as they deal with Matthew’s cancer.  How one small child can be so courageous is beyond my understanding.  But I do know that it can only be done by the grace of God. If everyone could have a father like Sean, what a better world we would live in.

I would like to thank Dorrance Publishing Company for giving me a complimentary copy of this book to read and review.  My prayers are with families that are struggling with cancer at this time. May they read this book and be encouraged.

100% of the profits from the sale of this book will be donated to the Matthew David Haines Foundation.  “Bringing Hope and Happiness to Children with Cancer”.  Thank you Sean Haines.

ALONG WOODED PATHS by Tricia Goyer

October 31, 2011

This is the second book in a series, the first being BESIDE STILL WATERS.  The book’s main character is Marianna Sommers.  She is Amish but has grown to love her new neighbors in Montana. She has become very fond of Ben, an English man who introduced her to God and music.  But she still has feelings for Aaron, an Amish man that she always thought she would marry.  To complicate things, Aaron travels to Montana  to see her and has an accident and must stay with her and her family while he heals.

Both Ben and Aaron care for her deeply.  But Ben walks away to keep from hurting her but they are both missing each other so much.  You can just feel Marianne’s heart hurting as she tried to do the right thing, to obey God in her decision.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the third book to come out so I can see who she marries. If you love reading sweet, Amish love stories, you will not be disappointed in this one. Also, reading the first in a series is always a good idea not mandatory for this series.

I would like to thank B& H Publishers for giving me a complementary copy of this book to read and review honestly.

FALLING TO PIECES by Vannetta Chapman

October 14, 2011

Callie’s aunt dies and she inherits her quilt shop in the Amish community of Shipshewana, Indiana.  So she leaves Texas to go to Indiana to sell her aunts shop and pick up her aunt’s dog, Max.  But when she gets there, Deborah, an Amish woman, befriends her and asked  Callie to reopen the shop.  A realtor, also, advised her to reopen the shop to bring more buyers to the shop. So Callie reopened the shop until she could get a buyer.

Everyone in Shipshewana is very friendly, except for Mr.Stakehorn, the editor of the local paper.  He printed lies about her and her shop in the newspaper.  When she confronted him in the coffee shop, she got so irritated with him, she poured her glass of iced tea on his head and left.

Later, she was going to take proof to him that he was wrong when she entered the newspaper office and found him dead in his chair. Things did not look good for her. Others had seen her confrontation at the coffee shop and with him dead and her” finding him” things did not look good for her.  Especially, with the overzealous policeman in charge of the case.

I enjoyed reading this book and would like to thank Book Sneeze for my complementary copy to read and review.  I was so disappointed at the way it ended. I wanted to know more but then I found out this is the first of three book series. So I guess my questions will be answered in the other books.

A HEART FOR FREEDOM by Chai Ling

October 6, 2011

More than twenty years ago, Chai Ling led the protesters at Tiananmen Square and became China’s most wanted woman.  She describes what growing up in China was like.  She tells her story with humility and honesty.  She gives details of what lead up to the protests and how difficult the situation became.  She had to go underground and eventually came to the United States with her husband in a cargo box and had to be in the box for 5 days.  In the box, her husband told her he is in love with another woman!  Can you imagine her heart ache!

Fast forward. In the United States she remarried, has three children, becomes a christian, and has a successful business and a burning  desire to help the Chinese people. She started All Girls Allowed to aid in ending abortion, infanticide and abandonment of baby girls in China. Because of the one child rule in China, more abortions have taken place than births. She feels the hurt of those who had to have an abortion, since she had four, herself. I love one of her statements.  “The message we need to communicate is not, ‘Come to God and He will forgive you’, But ‘Come to God and He will love you, heal you, and free you,'”

This book was excellent. It was well written with such emotion. Chai Ling had such courage.  I would like to than Tyndale Publishers for giving me a complementary copy of this book to read and review.

UNDER THE BIG, BLUE SEA by Aunt T

September 22, 2011

Under The Big, Blue Sea is a very short book.  Except for the pages that ask, “What is under the sea?” there are only 7 pages.  They have pictures of a dolphin, seals, a seahorse, octopus, & a shark with a little bit of information on each animal.  There are almost as many blank pages in the book as there are written pages.

I received this complimentary book from Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.  I was disappointed in the book. It was way too short and the binding broke when I first opened it up and the pages fell out.
