STAINED GLASS HEARTS by Patsy Clairmont

August 18, 2011

When Book Sneeze offered me this complimentary book to review, I was so excited. I love Patsy Clairmont and her books are full of humor. But  this book has a more serious tone to it. It is to help the broken hearted and haven’t we all been there at different time during our life. But Patsy points to God, who can take the broken pieces of of our heart and transform them into something beautiful and purposeful.  She uses examples from her own life and shows how God helped her out of agoraphobia and sustained her when her son was seriously ill, among other things.

At the end of each chapter, Patsy has “THE ART GALLERY”, where she lists Museums of special interest, poems and music she loves and a sometimes a prayer for the broken hearted or a scripture.  I love Mandisa and was glad she listed several of her songs that spoke to Patsy’s heart as well as to mine.

Patsy has a way with words and has the gift of encouragement. This book would make an excellent gift to someone that is wandering  through life with a broken heart and no real purpose. Patsy can direct them to God and He can heal a broken heart and make something extraordinary out of those broken pieces.

I want to thank Book Sneeze, a division of Thomas Nelson Publishing Company for the complimentray copy of this book.

SO LONG INSECURITY by Beth Moore

August 10, 2011

I love Beth Moore’s Bible Study’s and was thrilled when Tyndale offered me a complimentary copy of  the Leader’s Guide to So Long Insecurity to review. It is a fantastic study. But you do need her book that goes along with the workbook to do the study.

I found this study a lot different from her other studies but I think it is life changing.  I did the study by myself because my Bible study group are doing another study but I hope to use this study with them as our next study.  It is a ten week study. She recommends keeping a journal during this time.  I think most of us feel insecure at least part of the time but we don’t have to. God’s Word has the solution and Beth teaches it in a way only Beth can.  I loved the prayer on pages 165-174 and was able to pray this with someone recently who was suffering with insecurities. It is a powerful prayer!

I would highly recommend this book for everyone.  Can’t wait to study it again with my Bible Study group. Thank you Tyndale Publishers for the privilege of doing this great Bible Study.

FALLEN ANGEL by Major Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky

August 10, 2011

Major Jeff Strucker, a real life Black Hawk Down veteran, and his award-winning coauthor tell a space-based intelligence story.  An American satellite is knocked down by China and is falling into Siberia.  It is a race for Sergeant Major Eric Moyers and his team to find it before China and Russia find it and use it against the United States.  It was challenging enough to sneak into Siberia but their mission was even more dangerous once they arrived.

This is a fast paced suspense with lots of action. I loved the way the team  worked so well together. Even with all the stress they were under they still were so witty. But warning, there is also torture. It made me more aware of what our military goes through.  This is not the type of book I would normally choose to read but I did enjoy it.  I received this book from B&H Publishers free of charge to give an honest review.

THUNDER DOG by Michael Hingson with Susy Flory

August 9, 2011

I love dogs and really enjoyed this book.  The subtitle of this book is,” The True Story of A Blind Man, His Guide Dog & The Triump of Trust at Ground Zero.”  Michael Hignson was born blind and taught by his parents that he could do anything anyone else could do and did he prove them right! He even rode a bike as a child. I could write an entire page on this amazing man and his amazing dog, Roselle.  But the story involves Michael and Roselle and how they climbed down 1,463 steps to safety out of the  World Trade Center on 9/11.  Roselle did exactly as she had been trained and stayed calm the entire way down.  This is quiet a story but I would like to quote the author in the Introduction. “The real story, in my mind, isn’t how I got out of the World Trade Center. It’s how I got there in the first place.”  Michael Hingson may be blind but he certainly in not handicapped.

I highly recommend reading this book. It is a fast read and very inspiring. I received this book free from Thomas Nelson’s Book Sneeze Program.

ANGEL WITH A BROKEN WING by Margaret B. Rhodes

August 8, 2011

In this book, Mrs. Rhodes writes about the up and downs of her life. She and her second husband, Richard Rhodes, suffered severe financial losses during their marriage. Mostly due to dishonest people. But money was not their focus.  Their love was inventing or improving products to help others.  They worked in Third World countries, trying to improve their living conditions.

Mrs. Rhodes had many heartaches, including her estranged children.  But she had faith in God and a deep love for Mr. Rhodes through all the trials. She includes pictures and newspaper articles in the book, also.

I would like to thank Dorrance Publishing Company for giving me a complimentary copy of this book.  You, too, can get books for free from this website,http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?dorrance+7XZRvv+index.html.   The book seemed a little drawn out with all the financial problems but I did enjoy the last sections of the book which are entitled, Afterward & Story of the Pearls.

The boy who came back from heaven by Kevin & Alex Malarkey

July 11, 2011

On November 14, 2004 Kevin and his son Alex were in a terrible car accident that would change their lives and many others forever.  The day before the accident Kevin and his wife had just brought their new baby home from the hospital.  I can not imagine the emotions going from the joy of bringing a new baby home to having to stay in the hospital waiting to see if their son would come out of his coma.

Alex, a believer of Jesus Christ, was only 6 years old at the time of the accident. He had an amazing story to tell his family of what transpired at the scene of the accident and later in the hospital.  Alex watched the accident scene from above with Jesus.  He saw things that happened at the accident scene even after he was airlifted to the hospital. Alex said that he went  inside the gates of heaven.  He describes what he saw in heaven, except for the things that Jesus asked him to keep secret.  He describes the angels that were in heaven and the ones that were present in his room and how they helped him, even healing his broken neck. And they continued to minister to Alex with him even knowing their names.

I loved the way their church and others stepped forward to help out. I loved reading about all the people that prayed for Alex at the accident scene and met Kevin at a later time to share their story.

This was a very God focused book and I really enjoyed reading it. God is an amazing God, perhaps, He did show Alex heaven. I have no right to say but  I do know that Alex is an amazing child.  I would like to thank Tyndale for giving me this book free of charge to read and review honestly.

THE SERAPH SEAL by Leonard Sweet & Lori Wagner

July 11, 2011

This is a hard book review for me since I could not get into it. It seemed to just skip from person to person and place to place.  It is just not the type of book I enjoy but I am know there are lots of people that loved it.

This is an apocalyptic story and  the main character is  Paul Binder.  The adventure started when Paul received a note that said, ” Dear Dr. Binder, If you are receiving this letter, the year will be 2048-thirty-six years after your birth and the birth of the eight.  The Time of Becoming has now reached fruition.  Locate the manuscript of the Diatessaron.  You have been chosen to unlock the future of your world.  The cross key will guide you. Use it wisely.”  Paul had no idea what the note meant, but it would lead him all over the world with Angela who worked at the Centre for Manuscript and Print Studies.

When they were in Tuscany, Italy, A Dr. Pietro Engiola met with the pair and shocked them with this statement: (pg.202 & 203) “Dr. Binder, the Society of Messengers has been avidly waiting for you. You have been selected from before the timeof your birth by the Lamb of God to determine the Way of the Seal–to locate and lead those together who might choose to bring hope and a new dawn for the earth–for all creation, and for those who will choose to embrace Truth and to welcome the resurrection hope of Jesus the Christ.  The earth as you know it is fast fading away, as I’m sure you’ve been noticing by now.  But God always opens new possibilities for life, even in the midst of the darkest hours of humanity.  The Way is being revealed to you, but your path is one you must discover for yourself.  We help where and when we can. You’d have no doubt found your way to this place if I hadn’t invited you.  But time is of the essence and you are going to need this.”  What would Paul need? What would be revealed to Paul? What path would Paul take? What would happen to the world?  You must read the 420 page book to find out.  Also, included in the  back of the book is “The Journals and Notes of Paul Binder.’  Also, which I found very interesting ,was a section entitled:  Alphabet Of The Apocalypse: Reading the Signs of the Times.”

I received this book from Book Sneeze to read and give an honest review.

FUTURECAST by George Barna

June 21, 2011

Mr. Barna writes, “The purpose of this book is to help you wade through the flood of available information to find that which is helpful, accurate, and useful to consider ways of connecting disparate facts and ideas into a coherent picture of today and the future. The ultimate goal is not simply to inform you, but to equip you to make strategic decisions about how to make the world a better place to live.  This is your God-given challenge and privilege.”

I totally agree with Mr. Barna’s quote.  This book will have little benefit to you if you just read the book for information.  But we can use this information to change the world one person at a time.  We need to have a passionate desire to see others come to Christ.  But we must live different from the world.  I particularly liked the last chapter because it gave practical advice how we can surrender our will to God’s will and allow Him to use us in  a mighty way.  “It starts with your decision to let it be about Him and to seal that choice with your unyielding commitment to being the person He created you to be.” pg.222.

I want to apply what I have learned from this book to my life.  I want to thank Tyndale Publishing Company for giving me a complementary copy to read and review.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: A STRUGGLE TO SURVIVE by Joseph A. Klingman

May 28, 2011

Cynthia Thomas had a horrible life with her abusive father and neglectful mother.  She  had siblings that were mistreated but not nearly as badly as Cynthia.  She was finally able to leave home to attend college but because of the abuse, she made poor choices.  One bad choice was that she  had an affair with a married man.  But his wife, instead of revenge, took Cynthia in and helped her in unbelievable ways.  The woman was very wealthy and held back nothing to help Cynthia.

I was given this complementary copy of this book from Dorrance Publishing Company. I ordered it because the review commented on how one person can make a difference in a person’s life.  I, too, want to make a difference in other’s lives. But I found the book offensive.  I didn’t appreciate the language and graphic details of certain situations.  It is just not the type of book I enjoy.

LEAVING by Karen Kingsbury

May 20, 2011

Well, Karen Kingsbury came through for us with another great book.  The only bad part about the book was that it was over too soon and left me wanting more. But there will be 3 more books in the series to come. They are “LEARNING, LONGING & LOVING.”  They are all apart of the “BAILEY FLANIGAN SERIES.”

In this book , Bailey is ready to leave a much-loved family and home to pursue an exciting new career.  But one of the drawbacks for her was she would be leaving Cody.  She loved Cody, with all her heart, but he had walked out of her life, without an explanation, months earlier. While he was gone, Brandon came into her life and was trying to sweep her off her feet.  Would she ever have a relationship with Cody again? Or should she focus on Brandon?  If God would only make it clear for her!  She wanted the man God had for her but she knew she would never forget Cody.  But then, Brandon loved her and was so much fun and had such an exciting life.  But the one thing she did know she was heading to New York for an exciting career that was God’s plan for her.

I loved this book and highly recommend it and I would like to thank Zondervan for giving me a complementary copy of it to read and review honestly.
